Health Center Doctor Describes how Sequestration Cuts will Hurt Health Services for the Most Vulnerable
Communty Health Center physician, Gary Wiltz, MD, was among the representatives of the public health community who participated in a telephone conference call today about the impact of the funding cuts under the sequester, which are scheduled to take effect in less than 24 hours. Dr. Wiltz is the President and CEO of Teche Action Clinic, a Community Health Center in rural Franklin, LA, and the NACHC Board Chair Elect.
“There is no way that I can continue to provide care with a business model that doesn’t account for that hole in my budget,” said Dr. Wiltz. “We are trying to find ways to adjust and to prepare ourselves but the frank reality is there is no fluff in our budgets. We have expanded our services and are preparing to increase access for those who are going without care right now and this sequestration is going to be a tremendous blow to our efforts to try to expand that coverage.”
